Meet Your Hosts For The Evening
Stuart Morris
I am the founder of the International College of Professional Celebrants, the father of three sons, pilot, award winning lecturer in entrepreneurship at the Henley Business School and general lover of life. I took my first funeral in 1995 and I've been passionate about the rites of passage ever since.
Years ago, I recognized that most training organizations were only teaching to specific ceremonies; weddings or funerals, nothing encompassing all the many rites of passage. There was a massive void in the education offered and it was then that my entrepreneur-self kicked in and I realized I needed to start a training company. One with a diverse curriculum; teaching everything a celebrant would need to celebrate any milestone, transition or rite of passage. Thus, was born the International College of Professional Celebrants.
As human beings we have celebrated these moments in life throughout history and across all cultures. I fundamentally believe that as professional celebrants we bring joy, comfort and fulfilment to the people we serve. I like to say that I'm a minister without religion, of the “priesthood” for this generation.
Sharon Atherton
I am thrilled to introduce myself to you all as the new Training Programme Manager.
I have over twenty years NHS management experience and for fifteen of those I was a General Practice Manager at a surgery within my local town.
In July 2024 I arrived at High Trenhouse to commence my residential training week with our wonderful trainers Maxine and Sam. To say that week changed my life probably sounds a little over dramatic, but it certainly enabled me to make fundamental changes that adjusted the direction I was travelling in. In September I launched my own business whilst still employed with the NHS and this past week I received my 48th funeral referral from a friendly local funeral director which is one of ten I do regular work for.
The reason I tell you this is because I want you all to know that I am one of you. I am still very early on my celebrant journey but finding my feet rapidly. I know your pain, I understand your struggles, but I have also experienced the tremendous privilege and fulfilment you feel after helping a family through one of the saddest times of life.
