Creating Rituals: A Members Workshop

career engagement membership Jun 04, 2022

Ceremonies are all about rituals. In fact, the word 'ritual' simply means a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order - such as the rituals we see played out at weddings, funerals and religious contexts.

Think about it for a moment. A traditional wedding day is packed with rituals from beginning to end. The separation of the engaged couple before the ceremony. The bridal procession. The 'giving away' of the bride. The exchange of rings. The exchange of vows. The couple's first kiss. The throwing of the bouquet. Even the party afterwards! All of these activities are ritualistic and serve a purpose.

Of course, many couples choose to opt out of some or all of these rituals. Some even like to create their own rituals or incorporate rituals from other cultures.

When a couple meets with a celebrant, they will want to know that their dreams for the wedding can be accommodated. If you know your stuff, you can not only support the couple's preferred rituals, but suggest alternatives that you feel may enhance their day and bring extra meaning to the ceremony.

Now, anybody who has trained with the International College of Professional Celebrants will have studied some of this in our core training. But you can go much, much further, and that is why we are introducing a brand new members workshop - Creating Rituals. This workshop is a continuation on from your core training, allowing you to go much deeper and learn new, interesting and creative rituals that can enhance your business and bring more meaning to your clients' ceremonies.
