How Instagram Can Help Your Celebrancy Business

There are many incredible rewards to being a Celebrant. You get to play a critical part in people’s lives and share a moment with them in their joy and sorrow during pivotal events. But, as an independent sole trader, the responsibility falls on you to market yourself effectively and get your bookings in. Without this step, you can’t benefit from the amazing experiences Celebrancy brings.

What is Instagram?

Instagram is a platform owned by Meta (who also own Facebook and Whatsapp). It is a photo and video sharing app which is ordinarily accessed via a smartphone app, but you can use a desktop version too. Instagram lets you share pictures and videos of things that matter to you, as well as captions and hashtags. You can even run an advert! To get instagram, just go to your app store and download it, or sign up via a laptop / computer. 

Why Join?

Instagram is the 8th most visited website in the world and has the number one spot on app downloads. So our first question to you is, can you afford not to be there? The biggest audience is Gen Z and Millennials (aged 18 to mid 40s). This is a great demographic for weddings and baby naming ceremonies. More people seek out services on social media than ever before and a celebrant with a social media profile showing them to be busy, active, working and making people happy is bound to impress. Saying that, if you have no time to post to Instagram and feel it might stagnate, this could do harm to your business as it’s a sign to your followers that you aren’t working. So, if you are going to try it out, stick to a posting pattern of at least once a week. 

Basic Principles

Instagram is all about graphics and visuals. Your feed (the profile page) should be pleasing on the eye and presented with care. Choosing a theme can help - ie posting pictures which are full of vivid colours, or posting in neutral tones. 

It’s very simple really. You click on ‘post’ and upload a photo or video, add a text caption, and post it to your feed. Your followers will then see this, and new people can find you too. It’s important to keep your page public rather than private. By default, this will be the case when you sign up. Having a private account will mean new people can’t find you. 

As a rule of thumb, Instagram loves authentic content. What does this mean? Using your own pictures rather than stock images, sharing real world experiences and case studies, and writing honest reflections and views. 

For a celebrant, this might be a video reel of you talking about your day, a picture you’ve taken of a ceremony set up and ready, or some testimonials produced by your customers. 

Never feel as though your pictures need to be professional or perfect. You don’t need any video editing software or fancy graphics to have a fun, positive and influential feed. 

There’s a direct message button (called a DM), so that people can contact you to make a booking. You can also add your email and website to your profile. You cannot add any links to your posts, so make sure your links are very easy to find elsewhere (ie in your bio). 

When a new person messages you, you should be notified. But, sometimes this message can filter through to junk. You can find your junk box when you click on your inbox and view ‘requests’. 

All in all, using Instagram is easy. Set it up, give it a go and monitor how many enquiries you get!
