Why Continuous Learning is So Important in Celebrancy
Sep 29, 2024When you complete your Celebrancy training and launch your business, it can be easy to forget about continuous learning or undertaking fresh qualifications. After all, you are busy delivering excellent, meaningful ceremonies to your lovely new customers! But we encourage all of our members and those who trained with us, to frequently update their knowledge and skill-set. Why? Because we want to ensure that you are offering the very best service to your customers and maintaining integrity within the profession. Here’s three reasons why continuous learning is important in Celebrancy.
1. The Market Can Change
Whether you are a wedding or funeral celebrant, the industry is subject to frequent changes. Ceremonial trends, customer preferences, online marketing strategies, and even the way people look for a Celebrant can all evolve quickly. If you completed your training many years ago, you might not have the latest up-to-date knowledge about the market and could benefit from attending CPDs to fill in any gaps. For example, there has been a rise in popularity of the Living Funeral - something that might not have been popular at all when you completed your training. So taking a CPD in Living Funerals could help to bridge this gap in knowledge and ensure you can confidently prepare this type of ceremony. Understanding new ceremonies, rituals and trends can ensure you are offering the best possible service to your customers and can meet their current expectations.
2. Technology Evolves
The world of tech is one that’s rapidly accelerating and evolving by the day. New social media and search platforms are launched every few years, completely disrupting how your customers behave online.
To remain competitive, it’s important that you can confidently stay up-to-date with the latest tech trends to attract your ideal customer. Staying active on the wrong platform is not going to help you book ceremonies - but learning how to use the ones your customers are using will keep you connected.
At ICPC, we offer CPDs on using platforms like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and much more. We also have learning opportunities in general marketing / digital marketing, to help you to stay in-the-know about the best way to promote your business.
What makes ICPC unique is that these sessions are designed specifically for Celebrants, which makes it all more relevant to you. We also acknowledge that technology can be a scary subject for many of our Celebrants, and take a slow, gentle and non-judgemental approach to teaching this area.
3. Knowledge Can Fade
If you have been working as a Celebrant for a while, and your training is now a distant memory, you might have forgotten a few things along the way. Attending CPDs can help to refresh your memory, as well as keep up to date with any changes to the industry since you did your training. There might be certain ceremonies that you book less frequently, meaning you are a little out of practice in that area. Attending a CPD can give you the confidence and tools to continue to offer a wide range of ceremonies.
Beyond that, we acknowledge that feeling ‘out of touch’ can dampen your confidence. We want you to ensure that you remain assured within your role and supported by a wider cohort of peers as you develop your business.
