What Happens on Day 1 of ICPC Celebrant Training?

Knowing what to expect from a training course can help you to better prepare for it. At ICPC, we wish to be as transparent as possible, not only about celebrancy as a career path, but about the training course and work needed to launch your career.

ICPC Training: An Overview

ICPC offers two training options. One is residential, where you attend a training course in person, meet your peers and enter a classroom setting for 5 days at our dedicated training space High Trenhouse

As well as this, ICPC gives you access to one of two qualifications in Celebrancy, which you complete online within a specified timeframe. The first qualification you can complete is the Level 3 Certificate in Civil Celebrancy. The other option is more comprehensive and is called The Platinum Double Diploma.

What Happens On Day 1 of ICPC Residential Training?

You’ll want to know more information about where you’re going, who else is attending and what happens on your first day. We like to try and give you as much information as possible so you know what to expect.

After signing up for your place on a residential course, you will receive via email all the instructions on getting to High Trenhouse, as well as your starter resources and guides.

You will arrive at High Trenhouse on a Sunday evening. We prefer it if you can arrive around 5pm, so that there’s time for you to meet the other delegates, attend your first complementary 3-course-meal and perhaps socialise at the bar before heading to your private room.

The High Trenhouse staff are at your disposal and happy to help you with any questions, concerns or accessibility needs.

Day 1 of ICPC Training

Day 1 of ICPC training begins on Monday morning at 8.45am in High Trenhouse’s Bennett Building. After you have woken, you can indulge in a delicious cooked breakfast with the other delegates in the main building and then head over to the Bennett Building (just metres away) to begin your training.

You will be given a desk to share with one other delegate and all of your training materials will be there, ready for your arrival.

The trainers will also be in the room ready to go. You will have met them already on the Sunday evening and Monday morning breakfast, so your trainers will be friendly faces by this point.

The course opens with a broad introduction to celebrancy. Then, the first in-depth topic covered on Day 1 is Funerals

Even if you have your heart set on wedding celebrancy, we wish to share with you as much information as possible about funeral celebrancy. It is often the case that our delegates arrive with a certain type of preferred celebrancy in mind, and end up completely changing their minds half way through the course. So, we recommend all delegates keep an open mind and learn all aspects of celebrancy

Mid morning, you will be given a refreshment break, and at midday you can join your fellow delegates for lunch. Lunch is freshly prepared in our farmhouse kitchen and all dietary requirements are catered for.

In the afternoon you will return to Bennett House for training and we aim to finish by 5pm.

You then have the freedom to do whatever you like! You can return to your room, carry out your homework, go for a walk around the 3 acres of High Trenhouse land, and join your peers for a delicious three course dinner. You can also go to the bar where you’ll find games, a huge selection of drinks, and great conversation.

Our trainers will also be around to get to know you and answer your questions.

By the end of day 1, you will  feel far more educated on funeral celebrancy, and confident about being back in the classroom again. We also know that day 1 helps you to cultivate great friendships and connections with your peers. They could be your professional network for years to come.
